Happy Thursday everyone,
It’s been a busy week editing two videos on Humphrey’s channel this week but I’m pretty happy with how the vids turned out! Writing this newsletter has been really good for my productivity because it’s sped up my ideation process for visuals.
For those who want to check out the latest videos I worked on, I’ll link them below!
Enjoy today’s edition!

5 Visuals I Loved This Week
1. This Motion Design Integration

Ali Abdaal has done a really good job lately of integrating motion design into his intros - it’s almost become a part of his brand. Usually, the first 30 seconds of his videos includes some creative motion design animation and this video is no different.
Ali seems to believe that if his animators are going to be creative anywhere, it’s going to be the first few frames of each video to hook in the viewer to the rest of the video.
I love how the line from one scene (the text overlay screen), seamlessly integrates into the line chart in the next scene before turning into A-roll for the next scene.
2. This Chapter Marker Graphic + Animation
![](https://media.beehiiv.com/cdn-cgi/image/fit=scale-down,format=auto,onerror=redirect,quality=80/uploads/asset/file/f0c94605-d6fb-40f4-a892-ce347994bf40/120723_2.gif?t=1701985315)
Chapter markers may hurt overall watch time because viewers can just skip ahead to portions of the video they believe to be most relevant to them, but for the same reason, they increase overall viewer satisfaction. Ali knows this, which is why he’s integrated a chapter marker/table of contents graphic into this video.
This is something that I don’t see too often on the platform in such a well designed manner. I’m definitely going to look to see how I can implement something to of this fashion in a future video.
3. This Map Animation
Video: How the US President Travels
![](https://media.beehiiv.com/cdn-cgi/image/fit=scale-down,format=auto,onerror=redirect,quality=80/uploads/asset/file/12159755-8961-4d73-bca6-7c17bb612e76/120723_3.gif?t=1701985323)
This is a more niche type of animation but I thought this was a cool way to visualize a Presidential motorcade. It also acts as sort of a chapter marker as the video progresses through the different kinds of cars in the motorcade.
Some cool things to note with this graphic:
The black and white map behind the red line and the blue cars
The glow effect on the car at hand
The slow zoom effect on the motorcade
Neo is also one of the most talented animators on the platform. Give this video a watch for sure. I don’t even really know what kind of software he uses here but I definitely want to add this to the arsenal.
4. This Infographic

This was actually a sponsored portion of a housing affordability video but it stood out to me because I found myself actually paying attention. What I like most about this graphic is how the grad caps become part of the transition into the next scene.
5. This Soundwave Graphic
![](https://media.beehiiv.com/cdn-cgi/image/fit=scale-down,format=auto,onerror=redirect,quality=80/uploads/asset/file/996aa2d5-d1a8-46dc-b1f4-05c506107a28/120723_5.gif?t=1701985342)
We’ve discussed these kinds of dynamic soundwave graphics in the past (a la Cleo Abram), but here is another take on this kind of graphic.
The grungy details really bring this whole animation together: the nametags, the texture on the back of the photos, the grain effect, and the typewriter-like font/animation for the text.
X to Inspire
Everyone wants “yes.”
But they don’t wanna pay the price.
100 Nos is the price of one yes.
You can get as many as yeses as you damn well please as long as you’re willing to pay the price.
