🧠5 Visuals for Your Next Video
Happy Sunday everyone,
Hope you’re doing well! Another busy week for me but we made it through! I hope you did too - I mean, you wouldn’t be reading the newsletter if you didn’t make it!
Nothing to really update you guys on today… I started shooting some stuff for some future videos. A project that I’m hoping to bring to you real soon. Aside from that, nothing much else - just work for me.
Enjoy today’s edition!

5 Visuals I Loved This Week
1. This Creative Use of VFX
Video: How to Get PERFECT Audio | Beginner's Guide//Colt Kirwan
This is some of the coolest VFX I’ve seen on the platform. I feel like it’s pretty rare to see this kind of editing on YouTube (or at least the kind of YouTube that I normally watch).
Colt Kirwan’s videos have a really playful aspect to them which is really fun to watch when paired with his VFX skills.
He experiments with different focal lengths, camera angles, storytelling techniques, etc.
In terms of production, this is one of the best videos I’ve watched this week.
The combination of the visuals and the topic of the video itself is also a really interesting pairing.
I usually see these beginner guide type videos done very informatively but Colt takes good information and delivers it in a fun format!
2. This 3D Tri-Fold
Video: Stop Wasting Time - 11 Tools to Double Your Focus//Ali Abdaal
Ali Abdaal’s editing team always delivers when it comes to motion design. It’s a very consistent style - I feel like I know what to expect. I can click on any of his videos and the motion design is consistent throughout.
Ali Abdaal always seems to prioritize motion design at the beginning of his videos which is where this tri-fold animation is.
What I especially like is the 3D movement of the visual and the transition from A-roll into the tri-fold.
I also wanted to include this visual because I thought the app animation at the beginning was different.
The ones at the back were a little out of focus which is a good detail that gives the apps some depth.
3. These Animations + Chart Details
Video: How Bitcoin's Halving Could Boost the AI Business//Bloomberg Originals
Bloomberg Originals is kind of hit-or-miss for me in terms of motion design but whoever made this video did a good job here!
I found the Bitcoins popping up from behind the 21,000,000 really cool and easily replicable!
I feel like you could do this effect for any kind of video where you need to pop something up behind text.
For example, if I was talking about Coca-Cola, you could pop up some cans behind the text.
To do this, all you need is the text, the cans, and a mask with some feathering on it.
I also wanted to include this because of the chart details: the shapes, the lines, the shading.
I’m always trying to find ways to make my charts a little more visually dynamic and I think that’s what these details bring.
This is something I want to work on more in my own editing. It takes quite of bit of effort to come up with the concept, but I feel like it adds enough to the visual to make it worth it.
4. This Chat-GPT Animation
Video: The Underdog: From His Parent’s Basement to $25M//Starter Story
You guys know I love taking inspiration from the tech industry. The design is already well thought out and you have a clear template to follow. It’s also a well known design language that viewers can easily follow along with.
Taking a look at this visual, this is clearly a replication of what GPT-2 looked like.
They were able to animate the text bar, the text popping up, the press of the “send” button.
But it’s done so well that it made me do a double take of like “is this a screen recording or is this an asset made in post?”
5. This Slideshow Effect
Video: Europe's cocaine habit is devastating South America//Search Party
Popping up images is something every editor has to do so I’m always looking for new and cool ways to do it.
For this, it’s the details that make this visual.
The opening animation, the slightly faded copies on either side of the image, the texturing on the image.
X to Inspire
Discipline is saying no to people, places, and things that distract you from the pain of not achieving your goals.
