🧠 5 Visuals for Your Next Video

Happy Friday everyone,

Hope you had an amazing week leading up to this point, and that you’re looking forward to the weekend!

For me, weekends used to be a time where I could sit down for hours and edit videos (back when I was working or in school). So now that all I do is edit videos, every day is like that for me. It really makes no difference whether it’s Monday or Saturday. I love what I do and I hope that you will eventually get to feel this feeling of not really caring what day of the week it is!

For those who are interested, watch this clip from Dave Portnoy, CEO of Barstool Sports talking about this very concept.

In other news I’m in Tampa Bay, Florida this weekend for the NFC Wild Card game between the Buccaneers and the Eagles and I’m very excited to watch the Eagles season be over with!

Enjoy today’s edition!

5 Visuals I Loved This Week

1. This Chapter Marker + Timeline Graphic

  • First off, in pretty much every video I edit, there’s always multiple parts. So whenever I find a new chapter marker visual like the one at the beginning of the GIF, I need to save it.

    • Some things to note:

      • I love the moving highlighter effect. It gives the animation a much more hand-drawn feel that is not always easily replicable in motion design.

      • I also enjoyed the magnifying effect on the topic at hand. It makes the animation more engaging (like, THIS is what we’re going to be talking about next). The “EXIT POLLS” text pops off the screen toward you.

  • I’m also sucker for different looking timeline graphics and this one caught my attention for it’s unique format.

    • I hadn’t really seen a timeline made in this fashion, and although this format isn’t applicable for a lot of topics, I think it looks good and is something I’d want to keep in my repertoire.

  • The texturing on the bars is a nice touch and the years reducing in opacity as the timeline shrinks is a good touch.

2. This Stop Motion Graphic

  • This actually isn’t from a video per se but is in fact a GIF from an article about Litquidity: a finance meme page.

  • I don’t think this style is for everyone but if done right, this stop motion look with the vibrant colors is something that seems to be sought after on YouTube.

  • This kind of visual is good for faceless channels that need a lot of things moving on screen to keep up engagement.

    • For example, if you’re telling a detailed story, you could use this mix of vibrant colors and moving assets to help visualize it.

3. This Article Snapshot Graphic

Video: Why Temu is a NIGHTMARE//Future Proof

  • This visual and the last one highlight my need to use more vibrant colors when I’m editing because I love how these screenshots pop with the colored box behind it along with the red and blue backdrops.

  • I’m always looking for new and better ways to make screenshots more engaging and overlaying the screenshot on top of a video or b-roll isn’t something I’ve done before.

4. This Waveform Video Format

  • This whole video is actually a really interesting format that I haven’t seen done before on YouTube.

    • Essentially, the video is carried by a waveform graphic from what I’m going to guess is a Zoom call between Alex and Annamaria.

    • It’s not necessarily the most visually engaging video (which is a shame) but this format, if made more engaging, could be a really easily replicable format.

      • It’s not too different from what a faceless channel would do but I just haven’t seen an entire video made using the waveform graphic as the backdrop for the whole video.

5. This AI Visual

  • Cleo Abram and her animation team are always top notch with their work and this video on AI is no exception.

  • I could only include so much in the GIF above but if you have a chance, definitely give the whole video a watch (for both the topic and the animation).

  • I love the computer screen with the face moving to reveal the internals.

  • I also like the scrolling number box landing at 82%. The way that, at the end, the 2 moves a little upward because of the momentum is a great touch to give the animation a touch of realism.
