🧠 5 Visuals for Your Next Video

Happy Friday everyone,

I’m experimenting with different publishing times because I felt that the Thursday 6PM publishing was too late.

It’s been a busy time over the holidays but I’m trying to get back on top of my Twitter content. Got some good ideas coming soon but I just need to flesh them out.

Enjoy today’s edition!

5 Visuals I Loved This Week

1. This Graphic with a Series of Images

  • Nothing super special about this, but this is definitely something I would include in a future video.

  • The way the pictures move in slightly different ways, along with the little colored shapes, make it just dynamic enough to be engaging.

  • For quick turnaround videos, this is a good graphic to quickly display multiple images within a set.

  • I could only include part of the “blueprint” graphic, but the way he included an animation for each requirement was very creative.

    • If you actually watch the video, it’s quite evident that he made the animation in 3D space which is also a nice touch.

      • You can see this when he uses the “camera” feature to move perspective.

  • The app carousel integration was cool but I felt like it left much to be desired.

    • When stationary, it looks great! However, when in the moving car, I would’ve liked to see the app carousel motion tracked with the movement of the car.

      • This is definitely a lot of effort, but the fact that it’s not able to move kind of pulls the viewer out of the immersive experience.

3. This Timeline

  • I love the direction that WSJ is going with their video content. This kind of political content used to only be covered by Vox in this fashion but WSJ is definitely gearing up to compete.

  • The timeline animation is a very common visual made on YouTube and there are so many ways to execute on one.

    • I’m a fan of the pictures in the back and the zoom out of the timeline toward the end.

4. This Checklist

  • This is a visually pleasing way to pair B-roll with a list or text relating to the B-roll.

  • The visual starts with a full-screen clip of Singapore before animating the mask to reduce the size of the clip and sliding in the white box.

  • I love simple visuals like this because it shows that motion design doesn’t need to be super complex. Making something like this is already putting in more effort than many creators on the platform!

5. This Table Graphic

  • For some reason, I had never thought to animate a graph on top of a B-roll, but the way that this was done was cool to me.

  • The paper look is nice (but comes down to personal preference).

  • I love the way the lines animate, along with how every piece of text has a slight animation in before settling down.
